Governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko of Sokoto state has advocated for the devolution of more powers and resources to the states and local governments councils in the country.

Wamakko, who is the APC Senatorial candidate for Sokoto central addressed news men in Sokoto on Wednesday pledging to offer quality representation at the National Assembly, if elected.

He observed that in view of states and local councils’ proximity to the grassroots, “leaving more powers for resources control in the hands of the federal government will not enable states and local government areas to implement laudable policies and programmes that will improve on the well- being of the governed.”

The governor promised that if elected as senator, he would work on legislation that would enable states and local government areas to  have sufficient allocations from the federation account in order to ensure massive rural development.

He observed that the expenditure by the federal government on security was not yielding the desired result, adding, “The states governments are assisting security agencies in their various states with vehicles and communication gadgets. What happens to the federal government’s budget on security matters? He asked.

Wamakko added that only legislation that have direct impact on Nigerians would be initiated and implementated.

“I am aspiring to become a Senator for the entire country and will insha Allah work towards bettering the lives of all Nigerians,”Wamakko, promised.

While calling on Nigerians to ensure the collection of  their PVCs, he also asked Nigerians to “shun all kinds of violence before, during and after the general elections.”
