Preparatory to being engaged in productive lives, 2,300 youths drawn from the 23 local government areas of Sokoto state, on Thursday commenced training on environment, traffic and security matters in a special programme designed by the state government.
This augments the recent skills acquisition programme that turned out 1,000 youths trained in various skills and given working tools as well as take-off token of N10,000.
Receiving the training at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Wamakko, Wamakko local government of the state, the youths are being trained to be gainfully engaged and against being used by politicians as thugs, State Commissioner for Special Duties, Alhaji Abdullahi Abubakar Dange said.
Commending Governor Wamakko for giving the youths the opportunity to benefit from the programme, the Commissioner added that the youths, after the six-weeks training, would become “Environmental, Traffic and Security Marshals.”
Some of the trainees that spoke with Newsdiaryonline.com, corroborated in commending Sokoto state government for the programme.
“We have a government that has the youths at heart. To have something to do means to be free from being used as thugs by politicians,” Isa Danmallam, Mamman Mai Akwai and Lawali Goronyo corroborated.
