The Sokoto state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Thursday received 50,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the party.

The defectors received by Senator Aliyu Wamakko included former Special Advisers to Governor Aminu Tambuwal; former local government chairmen and former State House of Assembly members, as well as many other officials of PDP in the state.

Welcoming the defectors, Sen. Wammako assured them of equal treatment with all the existing members of APC in the state, adding that more PDP members, who had joined the APC would soon be named.

He advised the Tambuwal administration against intimidating workers that were loyal to the APC. “No amount of intimidation would deter the people of the state from massively loving and supporting APC and all its candidates, at all levels.

“Moreover, in a matter of weeks , the APC will take over the state, while President Muhammadu Buhari, including all the party’s candidates, at all levels , would be massively voted by Nigerians,” Wamakko said.

The Governorship candidate of the APC, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu said that most of the PDP members had returned to the APC.

He promised to emulate Sen. Wammako’s leadership qualities if eventually elected.

The Director -General of the APC Campaign Council in the state, Alhaji Yusuf Suleiman commended Wammako for providing credible and worthy leadership to the party and its members in the state.

Former Chairman of Silame local government, Abubakar Dantama and former state Assembly member, Murtala Hassan both spoke on behalf of the defectors, saying that they joined the APC because the party stood for justice and fairness.

They promised to work for the success of the party’s candidates, at all levels in the general elections.
