Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has opened up on the change of guards at the Securities and Exchange Commission,SEC. Dr Okonjo-Iweala issued a statement today clarifying reports which earlier said that the immediate past board of SEC was sacked by the federal government.
Paul C Nwabuikwu ,senior special assistant to the minister said “contrary to some media reports which have suggested that the immediate past Board of the Securities and Exchange Commission was forced to wind up against its will, the Board made no request for an extension of its tenure.
The finance ministry statement titled ‘SEC Board Was Not Sacked’ added that “In fact the board was commended for meritorious service when the statutory period of its mandate came to an end. ”
“This clarification is being made to set the records straight”,the finance minister said.
