The Ekiti State Government, has ordered immediate rehabilitation of damaged schools by a recent rainstorm at Erinmope Ekiti, Moba Local Government Area (LGA), of the state.Prof. Femi Akinwunmi, Chairman of Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board, (SUBEB), gave the order on Thursday, during an on-the-spot assessment of the damaged school buildings.The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the schools include St. Jude Catholic Public Primary School and A.U.D Primary School,
Erinmope Ekiti.Akinwunmi directed the Board’s physical planning department, to commence action on the affected structures without delay.He explained that the order became necessary to guarantee safety of pupils’ lives, as well as guard against further damage to government property, especially with the coming of the rains.Akinwumi expressed gratitude to God that no life was lost in the natural disaster, which also reportedly destroyed more than 50 houses in the community.He, however,
stressed the importance of planting trees to protect the environment from such disasters in future.He reiterated the commitment of the current administration to the provision of conducive teaching and learning environment in the state’s public schools.According to Akinwunmi, to ensure the safety of lives of teachers and pupils in schools, dilapidated
public schools building will be pulled down and reconstructed.NAN reports that this is the third time in five weeks that rainstorm has wreaked havoc in the state, damaging both public and private properties worth billions of naira.The first of such incidences occurred in the first week of February,
when some government-owned buildings, including a section of the state assembly, secretariat, pavilion and others, others were damaged. (NAN)
