Mr Yusuf Gagdi, a member of the Plateau House of Assembly, has declared interest in the Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal constituency seat, ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Gagdi, who won the Kantana State constituency on the ticket of the PDP, defected to the APC in 2017.

“I have bowed to the pressure to contest the House of Representatives seat. I have picked my nomination and expression of interest forms. I am already consulting with delegates and other stakeholders,” Gagdi said on Sunday in Jos.

The aspirant promised to initiate bills that improve the living standards of his constituents, saying that he would use his legislative experience to achieve success in the new task.

He expressed optimism that he would pick the APC ticket and win the general elections, saying that he had visited the three local governments that made up the constituency and secured their endorsement.

Gagdi promised to consolidate on his achievements as state lawmaker if given the opportunity to move to the federal level, and cautioned the voters against religious and ethnic biases.

“People must assess aspirants on merit. More attention should be paid to capacity to deliver rather than tribe or religion,” he said.

Gagdi, if successful in the primary election, will slug it out with the incumbent, PDP’s Tim Golu, who is poised to pick his party’s ticket to seek a second term. (NAN)
