Reports said members of opposition parties staged a walk out of the chambers of Nigeria’s House of Representative on Tuesday.

Their action followed the ruling by the Deputy Speaker Emeka Ihedioha not to investigate the smuggling of $9.3million into South Africa using a chattered private jet from Nigeria’s capital Abuja.

The motion to investigate the matter was raised by one of the lawmakers and the issue was subjected to a voice vote during which the speaker ruled that the nays had it.

Ihedioha’s ruling sparked off an angry protests from the opposition members who noisily walked out of the chambers.

The sum of $9.3 million was recently impounded at a South African airport after two Nigerians and an Israeli illegally attempted entering the country without declaring the fund. The cash has reportedly been seized by South Africa as investigations continue.
The Nigerian government has reportedly opened diplomatic talks with South Africa over the scandal as Nigeria said the cash was meant for purchase of arms.

Controversy over the smuggling of the huge cash has however refused to go away as the private jet involved in was reportedly linked to President of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor known to be a bosom friend of President Goodluck Jonathan.
