The seven man panel constituted by the Adamawa state acting Chief Judge, Justice Ambrose Mammadi has defied the public holidays declared by the state government as it swung into action on Monday .The panel commenced sitting without official inauguration.
The panel constituted to probe the allegations of gross misconduct against the governor and his deputy Bala Ngilari commenced sitting in Yola, Monday behind closed doors and under heavy armed security .
The committee then went ahead to start its maiden meeting amidst tight security at J & J Holiday Villa located at Atirwucha close in Karewa GRA of the state capital. Stern looking security personnel were stationed in and out of the hotel venue of its sitting. A military carrier were seen along the street where the hotel is located to scare away possible intruders.
The Registrar of the High Court Abubakar Bayola has earlier told newsmen that the inauguration of the committee is not a requirement for the commencement of the panel’s job as it was nowhere in the constitution.
But many residents expressed discontentment about the turn of events in Adamawa as they contended that the investigative panel was usually inaugurated asking why is it different in Adamawa State.
However, newsmen were barred from covering the maiden sitting as stern looking security men consisting of soldiers and police maintained surveillance at strategic position to avert any eventuality.
Meanwhile, civil servants in the state have complied with the holiday given by the government yesterday as all government offices across the state have remained under lock and key.
