The Nigerian Medical Association ,NMA has called off its strikes. No details were available about how agreement to end the strike was reached.
But Kayode Obembe, NMA President told journalists that the decision was borne out the union’s quest to combat the Ebola Virus Disease ravaging the country .
Many Nigerians had expected the union to end the strike much earlier in the face of the Ebola emergency. An angry federal government even suspended the Residency Training Programme in Federal Hospitals in apparent frustration over the lingering doctors’ strike.
Though it was thought that the resident doctors had been sacked through the suspension of the training programme,Health Minister Professor Oyebuchi Chukwu later said none of them has been sacked.
