The Nigerian Army has commenced investigations into Amnesty International’s allegations against Nigerian Army. This was disclosed by the Chief of administration, Nigeria Army, Major General Adamu Baba Abubakar at a press briefing on Friday at the Army Head Quarters Abuja .
Adamu said ” the military is still conducting investigations as a responsible corporate organisation is bound to respond to the allegations in order to put the record in proper perspective” he stated.
He added that “the Nigerian Senate and National Human Right Commission have also conducted independent investigations on the allegations of human rights violation against Nigeria Military”.
General Abubakar noted that ” no new facts have been unearthed by Amnesty International to warrant their repeated allegations as a rehash of the same allegations made against the military since 2011.
He argued that then “ Some investigations could not be concluded due to the inaccessibility of the terrain due to the activities of Boko Haram terrorist”.
The Major General said ” in the course of forensic investigations, the withdrawal of troops from the front-line for investigation tends to dampen the morale of solders and distracst ongoing operations against insurgents”.
He appealed to Amnesty International ” to be patient to see the outcome of the investigation,” adding that. Nigerian Military has zero tolerance for human right abuse, extra judicial killings and acts perceived to be war crimes .
