A multiple auto crash over the weekend, involving about 15 vehicles reportedly killed a soldier, a woman, two hawkers and scores of others injured along Kugbo – Nyanya road, Abuja.
The incident was allegedly caused by break failure of a high speed truck, which lost control and rammed into other vehicles along that road.
An eye witness, Mr.Uzoma Okoroafor told our reporter that truck lost control and jammed into other cars, thereby causing multiple accidents.
”The break of the truck failed and it lost control and jammed into other vehicles before it crushed one soldier, a woman and finally somersaulted.
“The truck also killed two people that were hawking pure water along that place and also destroyed a motor cycle parked nearby. The Federal government should expand this road or create other bye-pass to avoid the unnecessary deaths,” the eyewitness said.
Another eye witness, who gave his name as Dalhatu, said that the death of the soldier and the woman could have been avoided if she had agreed to an earlier plea by the army officer and the other driver who bashed her car.
“The other driver was begging the woman, and the army officer who always ride along this road to work also stopped and intervened, but the woman refused, and as she was making call to her husband, the truck suddenly ran over her and the soldier, and crushed their heads.
“The husband of the woman brought an ambulance and conveyed her corpse, while a military vehicle came and carried the corpse of the soldier,” he explained.
The conductor of a truck carrying PEPSI drinks that was also involved in the accident lamented the activities of hoodlums and scavengers who made away with their vehicle’s battery.
“That is like adding salt to his injuries.”
As at the time of filing this report the combined efforts of the Military, Police and other security agencies, deployed to the accident scene helped to douse the tension in the area.
