A 28-year-old man, Isaac Useni, who allegedly stole two bottles of exotic wine valued at N102,000 from a supermarket, was on Thursday brought before a Tinubu Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The defendant, who is facing a two-count charge of theft, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, ASP. Ben Ekundayo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Nov. 7 and Nov. 11, 2020 at Blenco Supermarket, Ilasan in Eti-Osa area of Lagos.
Ekundayo said that the defendant entered into the supermarket on two occasions and stole one Hennessy VOSP and one Dom Perignon, both valued at N102, 000.
“Useni came into the supermarket on Nov. 7, went to the wine aisle, pretended to be a customer, and removed the wine from the shelf and put it in his clothes and replaced an empty pack back on the shelf.
“Unknown to him, he was caught on CCTV, when he came back to the supermarket on Nov. 11 and repeated the same act.
“The guard suspected and asked to search him.
“When Useni was caught, the CCTV footage from the first time was recalled,” he said.
Ekundayo said that the offenses contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Magistrate, Mr A. A Paul, granted the defendant N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case until Jan. 12 for hearing. (NAN)
