A House of Representatives member from Akwa Ibom state, Hon. Henry Archibong at the weekend in Uyo told the people of his Itu/Ibono Federal Constituency to return him for a second term.
Addressing leaders of his constituency in his resident, he stressed that his status as a green horn in the House of Representatives made it impossible for him to influence federal projects to his constituency.
According to Achibong, “It is difficult for none ranking member to attract dividend of democracy to his constituency.”
He appealed to his constituents to work toward electing him for the second term to improve his ranking in the House in order to enable him attract dividend of democracy to them.
He advocated for more terms for, especially Lawmakers in order to stabilize and strengthen their representation at the legislature.
Speaking with our correspondent after a breakfast meeting with a section of PDP stockholders, Archibong disclosed that as first time parliamentarian, he would not have enough grip of lawmaking politics.
“There is so much lobbying in the National Assembly, you need to know who to lobby to be appointed into better committees. As a first timer, it would be difficult to attract projects and other dividends of democracy to the constituency.
“We have Parliamentarians that have been there for four terms and are ready to save their fifth terms. Imagine what such persons can attract to their people. But as a fresher, you can hardly attract one capital project to your constituency,” he said.
Archibong said he moved a motion for the award of contract for the reconstruction of Calabar/Itu road, Federal highway as well as the motion for the upgrading of Maritime Academy, (MAN) Oron to a full fledged University, which has since passed second reading
“I am one of the first timers who is constantly heard on the floor of the House, during plenary sessions,” he stressed.
He said that he has empowered 100 people, including market women as well as given financial leverage to at list a 100 students in tertiary institutions.
Archibong also said that he had given out over 50 tricycles, fishing boats among other life enhancing projects.
