At least ten companies signed MoUs with the Kano State Government shortly before the Second Economic Summit came to an end at the Coronation Hall,Government House in the ancient commercial city.
Among the companies which signed MoUs was Dangote Rice Limited,owned by Africa’s richest man,Dangote who also hails from Kano.More investors include Brains and Hammers, Milestone International Company,Broadband Nigeria Limited and EEC among others.
Addressing the last session of the 2nd Economic and Investment Summit Wednesday, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje assured the companies of support.He enjoined them to report to the governor if any of the companies encounter redtape, delay or sabotage.If there is any problem with any federal agency, he said the state would take up the issue and approach authorities in Abuja for solution.
Earlier sessions Wedenesday had examined the infrastructural challenges and opportunities in Kano.Also the summit examined the state of security especially inadequate policing.Kano was said to have had far less policemen than Lagos even before Boko Haram started. An appeal was made for more personnel even as there were also calls for better welfare to encourage the police.One of the speakers also lamented the fact that several agencies have been created to perform functions which constitutionally belong to the police.
Notably, Governor Ganduje hailed the Summit Committee led by Dr Shamsudeen Usman, a former minister.The governor said the Committee will henceforth be permanent.He assured that the next economic summit will hold next year.
