A chieftain of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party,PDP  Prof.Cyriacus Njoku has  slammed President Goodluck Jonathan’s comments last night about his 2015 ambition.Njoku who has sued the president in order to stop him from doing a ‘third term’has described Jonathan’s comments as prejudicial and tantamount to contempt of court.

In a statement this afternoon, the PDP chieftain said his  “attention has been drawn to the Presidential media chat of President Jonathan last night with media chiefs wherein he stated thus   ‘Four years is a very short time for a person to make an impact. Immediately you start talking about elections. Give us time. Before you start asking Mr. President whether he will contest elections, wait until 2014. Give us some time to make sure that myself and my cabinet work,’”

“I view this statement coming ahead of the judgment in the suit before an Abuja High Court which seeks to determine his eligibility to contest in 2015 as prejudicial to the outcome of the suit. Judgment is being awaited and here we have the president making statement as though he has seen the judgment already,”Njoku said.

PRESS STATEMENT

2015 STATEMENT BY PRESIDENT JONATHAN IS CONTEMPT OF COURT

My attention has been drawn to the Presidential media chat of President Jonathan last night with media chiefs wherein he stated thus   “Four years is a very short time for a person to make an impact. Immediately you start talking about elections. Give us time. Before you start asking Mr. President whether he will contest elections, wait until 2014. Give us some time to make sure that myself and my cabinet work,”

I view this statement coming ahead of the judgment in the suit before an Abuja High Court which seeks to determine his eligibility to contest in 2015 as prejudicial to the outcome of the suit. Judgment is being awaited and here we have the president making statement as though he has seen the judgment already.

To me this is tantamount to contempt of Court. The Court is yet to clear him to contest yet he makes pronouncements on the same subject matter on TV. This is highly condemnable and would impinge on the credibility of the expected judgment delivery by the Abuja High Court.
