Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters,DHQ has denied claims that leader of the Independent Peoples of Biafra,Nnamdi Kanu is in the custody of the military.
Answering questions from reporters during a press conference, the Director of Defence information,Major General John Enenche said the IPOB leader is not in the custody of the military.
“Nnamdi Kanu is not in the custody of the military,”Enenche said Friday at the Defence Headquarters.
Asked whether the Defence Headquarters will also declare Kanu wanted like it did to the Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, the defence spokesman replied: “It is not the responsibility of DHQ to declare Nnamdi Kanu wanted.”
Earlier, Enenche reaffirmed the unalloyed loyalty of the Armed Forces to the Commander -in Chief, President Muhammadu Buhari.He also pledged the total subordination of the military to constituted civil authorities.
The defence spokesman added that various military exercises and operations going on across the country are being sustained.
He said further that the military has been carrying out steps to win the hearts and minds of the people in areas of such exercises through programmes like medical outreaches.
The armed forces, the spokesman said, has also been reassuring the public against what he called negative propaganda.
