The Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Yobe, says it is partnering with the Independent National Electoral Council (INEC), Security Agencies and other Stakeholders to ensure successful polls.
Alhaji Umaru Kukuri, IPAC Chairman of the council in the state, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Damaturu.
He said the council would ensure that political parties and candidates adhered to the electoral laws.
“As the umbrella body of all political parties in the state, IPAC will support every action taken to ensure adherence to the electoral law and peaceful conduct of the elections.
“The council has put in place mechanisms to check acts of violence and thuggery by political parties.
“Our state has suffered so much as a result of security challengesas such we can not afford to accommodate any other form of violence from anyone, especially those that are politically motivated,” kukuri said.
He appealed to the parties, their candidates and supporters,to support political activities that promoted peaceful electioneering, before, during and after the elections.
The chairman assured that the peace accord signed among candidates and political parties would be respected, promoted and protected.
Kukuri lauded INEC for providing level playing ground for all political parties and candidates.
“We are satisfied and impressed with the neutrality exhibited by the electoral umpire (INEC) and urge it to sustain the tempo throughout the electioneering period,” he said.(NAN)
