Foundation for Peace, Economic and Agricultural Transformation, a non-governmental organization has called for nation-wide prayers across religious divides to stem the tide of insecurity in Nigeria.
Alhaji Abubakar Ahmad, Sokoto state Chairman of the foundation, made the call during its monthly meeting in Sokoto on Sunday.
“We should collectively engage in prayers for God’s intervention in the ongoing security challenges in the nation and we should do this patriotically as Nigerians, irrespective of any political, religious or ethnic affinity,” Ahmad said.
He added that Nigeria and Nigerians were in dire need of such prayers and God’s intervention, adding that no nation or society could develop in an atmosphere devoid of peace, unity and tranquility.
“We will soon embark on massive sensitization campaigns in the state to facilitate peace, unity and socioeconomic prosperity. We are committed to doing this diligently to complement the efforts of the government in further securing the lives and property of Nigerians,” he added.
He stressed that the NGO was working to facilitate the empowerment of youths, women and other vulnerable groups.
“There is also the urgent need to diversify the economy of the nation in favour of the non-oil sector, especially agriculture,” Ahmad added.
