The National Peace Committee on 2015 general elections, led by its Chairman, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (Rtd), former Head of State commended the Nigeria Police Force for its professionalism in its conduct at the just concluded March 28th Presidential and National Assembly elections held nationwide.
He stated this when the committee paid a courtesy call on the Inspector-General of Police at the Force Headquarters, Abuja. He remarked that the visit had become necessary, owing to the critical role the IGP Suleiman Abba led Police played in ensuring the overall success of the Abuja Peace Accord. He also admonished Nigerians to collaborate more with the Police in tackling crime.
Lending credence to the former Head of State’s remarks was John Cardinal Onaiyekan, a member of the Committee who equally appreciated the noble role played by the Police during the conduct of the last elections.
In his response, IGP Suleiman Abba thanked the committee for the visit which he described as highly motivational and promised to make it a subject of lecture across police formations. The IGP again re-affirmed the commitment of Nigeria Police Force to be impartial and non partisan. He equally assured Nigerians that what Nigeria Police Officers have done is not just for the 28th March, 2015 elections, but it will also replicate the same commitment and professionalism in 11th April, 2015 elections and subsequent elections in Nigeria.
..Felicitates With Christians On Easter Celebration
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Suleiman Abba heartily felicitates with Christian faithfuls across the nation as they join other Christians in the world to celebrate the joyous and glorious moment of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, a statement by Force Spokesman,Ag CP Emmanuel Ojukwu said.
While urging Christians to learn and adopt the full significance of the resurrection of Christ and to open their hearts to issues of peace, forgiveness and harmonious co-existence, he enjoined all Nigerians to emulate the principles of the Easter season and to celebrate within the ambit of the law.
The IGP enjoined Nigerians to respect the diversities of the nation. He also called on Nigerians for more cooperation with law enforcement and security agents as the country continues in the enthronement of democracy in the April 11th 2015 polls.
The Police High Command said it is positive that the multifarious strategies adopted by the Police Force on adequate security will ensure a hitch-free Easter celebrations.
Members of the public are equally advised to avail the Nigeria Police with useful information that will effectively assist the police to track down criminal elements and to further expose persons with questionable character,Ojukwu said.
…Announces Death Of IGP M D Yusufu
The Nigeria Police Force has announced the death of her former Inspector-General of Police, IGP Muhammadu Dikko Yusufu, CFR, NPM who passed away on 1st April, 2015 after a brief illness.
Late IGP Muhammadu Dikko Yusufu, CFR, NPM was born in Katsina on 10th November, 1931. He was the 3rd indigenous Inspector-General of Police, Federal Republic of Nigeria between 1975 and 1979.
He was seconded into the Nigeria Police Force as an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in 1962 and later became Inspector-General of Police on Wednesday 30th July, 1975.
Late IGP MD Yusufu obtained his Elementary, Middle Schools and higher educational qualifications at:
- Katsina Provincial School, Katsina
- School for Arabic Studies, Kano, 1947
- Institute of Administration, Zaria, 1952 – 1953
- Christ Church College (Oxford University)
He was a holder of many National Honours and Awards which include:
- Nigeria Police Medal – NPM
- Commander of the order of the Federal Republic (CFR)
- Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON)
Late IGP MD Yusufu after his retirement from the Nigeria Police Force held various
national appointments as follows:
- He was appointed Chairman of the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Ltd (NLNG)
in 1994.
- He became Chairman of the Central Working Committee of the Arewa
Consultative Forum (ACF), a Northern cultural and Socio-political association in
2001.
- He was Presidential candidate on the platform of the Grassroots Democratic
Movement (GDM) and Movement for Democracy and Justice (MDJ) in Nigeria.
- He was also Chairman Presidential Committee on Nigeria Police Force reform.
He is survived by a wife, children and grand children.
