The State Security Service ,SSS has given detailed insight into how what it described as the phantom plot to assassinate Senator Aloysius Etok was hatched.
Marilyn Ogar, Spokesperson of SSS told journalists on Monday that the service upon receiving a letter by the senator urged him to play along with the suspect. Orgar said, “According to Senator Etok, on 28th April,2013,Adeola Tamunotonye Olaore telephoned and introduced himself as General Africa claiming he has been contracted by Governor Godswill Akpabio’s loyalists to assassinate him.
“Subsequently ,he(Olaore) was asked by the senator to come to Abuja on 29th April,2013 and was lodged in a Hotel from where he was apprehended.
According to the SSS spokesperson, Olaore is a 29 year old graduate of mechanical engineering from Rivers state University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt.He hails from Okecho in Kajola LGA of Oyo State but was born in PortHarcourt.
The SSS spokesman said its interrogation of the suspect revealed “that he went to NDDC office in Port Harcourt to submit a mail where he stumbled on a mail bearing Senator Aloysius Etok’s complimentary card from where he obtained the Senator’s number.
“That he, being aware of the political interests between the Senator and the Governor over the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial seat by 2015,seized the opportunity to contact Senator Etok
“He introduced himself as ‘General Africa’ an ex-militant from Bayelsa State.He then told the Senator that he had been contracted by three (3)of Governor Akpabio’s loyalists to assassinate him.
“In order to convince the Senator , he offered to furnish him with details of the Governor’s purported Bank Account and Energy Company in South Africa.
Ogar said, Olaore “ however confessed that he had never met Governor Akpabio,the Comissioner for Environment,or Kenneth Okon (aka WAYAS)the Chairman of Etinam Local Government Council.
“That he hatched the plot to defraud Senator Etok using information obtained from open media about a rift between the senator and the governor Akpabio.
He even “offered to broker peace between the senator and the governor which the senator accepted.
The suspect then “requested for transport fare to Akwa Ibom where he intended to initiate the peace meeting between both parties”
The SSS spokesperson said that “from the forgoing ,Olaore hatched the phantom assassination plot to fraudulently extort money from Senator Aloysius Etok by exploiting the perceived rift between him and Governor Akpabio.”
Olaore will be charged to court soon, Ogar said.
