Group Condemns Northern Elders’ Rejection of Confab

The Northern Emancipation Network has described the rejection of the upcoming national conference by the Northern Elders Forum as mischievous and selfish.
Reacting to the elders ‘s rejection of the confab, coordinator of the Network, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman said the elders have always kicked against anything they considered detrimental to their personal interest every if it will in the long run serve the interest of the entire region.
He said the extent of greed and self-centeredness of the northern elders is such that it has today endangered the economic and political prosperity of the whole region.
“These elders who have monopolized more than 90 per cent of the total available activity in the region are clearly threatened by the confab sensing it will afford the estranged northern population the opportunity to define or redefine the extent of its hitherto master -slave relationship between it and the self -proclaimed elders, ” Suleiman said.
He accused the elders of being directly responsible for the present multiple complications facing the region and warned that the emerging cultured north would vehemently stand up against further machinations to deny the region of its deserved progress after decades of wasted power by its leaders.
“Those who today claim to be northern leaders and profess to speak for the region, are ironically the bulk of the region’s problem. Go to Giwa local government in Kaduna state for instance and you will find that since its creation, the entire political and economic activity in the area has been concentrated in a single household to which one of the most vocal of the northern elders belongs, ” charged Suleiman.
He said it’s unfortunate and unforgivable that this type of people should today parade themselves as champions of the northern cause whereas hundreds of people in their immediate domains have been denied life opportunities by their serving individual greed.
