Fours after Adamawa Acting Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri assumed duty, a serious crisis is now brewing pitting three groups against one another. The groups includethe state executive of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, members of the state House of Assembly and local government council chairmen.
Reports indicate that the three bodies are poised for war over which of them played the most significant role in the impeachment of Governor Murtala Nyako and the subsequent emergence of Ahmadu Fintiri as acting governor.
The supremacy battle between the three bodies came to light today at the swearing ceremony of the newly appointed Secretary to the State government SSG,Prof. Abdullah Liman Tukur at council chambers of Government House.
Government House protocol officers had a hectic time in controlling themselves as seats meant for the commissioners of the dissolved executive council, were taken over by party executives ,while they await the arrival of the Acting Governor.
It was observed that first to be seated were the members of the PDP state executive led by its chairman, Chief Joel Madaki .However trouble and confusion crept in when the state House of Assembly members and the council chairmen demanded to be properly seated.
The protocol officials were invited to organize the sitting arrangements, and when the PDP executive members were beckoned on to give the legislators seats , they remained adamant.
Serious confusion then enveloped the council chambers as the legislators and the PDP executive started traded words, claiming superiority in the fight that ousted Nyako’s government and the emergence of Ahmadu Fintiri.
The confusion delayed the swearing ceremony for close to an hour as the protocol officials were left helpless, even as the two groups continued to trade words.
The intervention of top security personnel and other government officials prevented the situation from degenerating into fisticuff before normalcy was restored in the council chambers.
Local government council chairmen, who were put in one obscure corner for the ceremony equally complained that they were not properly accorded their rightful position in the scheme of things.
During the rowdy session, the local government council chairmen were told that they do not deserve any recognition as they were accused of their loyalty to the previous regime.
Already, the majority leader of the state House of Assembly ,Ishaq Bala has been removed.Ishaq, member representing Yola North constituency was removed for not supporting the impeachment of ousted governor Murtala Nyako.Bala was accordingly replaced by Salihu Kabilo from Verre constituency as the new majority leader of the House.
Similarly , under intense pressure from PDP Stakeholders ,the Acting Governor has removed all commissioners and other political office holders appointed by Nyako .This is with the view to having control of government, insiders said.
But it was also observed that lobbyists including some Nyako’s former commissioners have continued to flood the Government House.
