Former Foreign Affairs Minister’s Corpse Arrives Lagos

The remains of former foreign affairs minister, Ambassador Gbenga Ashiru arrived Lagos Sunday.The body was flown in aboard South African Airways with flight number SA060.

The aircraft ,an Airbus 349 -600 landed on the runway at the international wing of the airport about 4.30pm.

It was received by the family  led by Professor Toyin Ashiru. About 6:19 pm the body was ferried out of the aircraft into a waiting hearse .

Other members of the family were also present at the Gate 14 exit of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.

The brother of the deceased declined comment as he was not in the right frame of mind to speak to the press .

It was learnt that the brother of the deceased, a serving commissioner in Ogun State, a Otunba Bimbo Ashiru flew in with the body .

Bimbo Ashiru is the Ogun State for Commerce and Industry . After the aircraft touched down family members interfaced with relevant authorities including Nigerian Customs Service, South African Airways and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria for documentation.

Former managing director of Daily Times and chief executive officer of Tanus Communication Company, Dr Yemi Ogunbiyi , Engineer Olatunbosun Ashiru , Mr Alaba Okupe , Venerable Oludare Otoki , Venerable Leke Dina , Sir Kehinde Smith , and Ambassador Oluwatoyin Lawal, former deputy high commissioner in London and Mr Niyi Alonge as well as son of the deceased were on hand to receive the body of the ex – foreign affairs minister .
