The Federal Government is to support the Kogi Government with agricultural equipment to encourage farmers and boost agricultural production in the state.
Chief Audu Ogbeh, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, said this when Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi visited him in Abuja on Thursday.
A statement signed by Mrs Osagie Jacobs on behalf of the Director, Information in the ministry, quoted Ogbeh as commending Kogi for buying into the agricultural programmes of the Federal Government.
The minister listed the programmes to include land clearing, rice revolution and the establishment of cattle colonies being propagated by the Federal Government.
He said that establishment of the cattle colonies and the land clearing programmes were aimed at increasing milk production and quality of beef for consumption.
Ogbeh explained that the plans by the Federal Government to establish cattle colonies, was not an attempt to seize people’s land and handover to herdsmen.
“We have to free our country from unnecessary crisis and poverty,’’ he said.
Earlier, Bello commended the efforts of the minister in championing the agricultural revolution in the country. (NAN)
