The Enugu State Government, on Thursday, urged all unemployed graduates to learn an additional trade or skill as a side hustle, while they await their dream jobs
.
“The state government does not want any unemployed graduate to continually roam the streets, neighbourhoods and complain daily there is nothing for him or her to do.
“The government has set-up modern and digital skill acquisition centres where they can learn a trade free-of-charge and take-off from there,” Bishop Chinedu Nwoye, aide to Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu.
Nwoye, who is the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Religious Matters, urged youths to “bend down’’ and look inward to discover values they could add to the society by laying their hands and hearts on something to do daily.
He said that they should desist from involving themselves in the “fast-lane or get-rich-quick activities”, adding, “If wealth from money ritual is genuine and lasting; children of herbalists/occult masters should be the wealthiest in the country.”
According to him, society rewards creativity and creativity does not depend on one’s certificate; it depends on personal ingenuity and consistency in proffering solutions to societal challenges.
“You should not allow the inadequacies within the society to get you depressed as a youth and probably you will go into use of hard drugs. That is a totally wrong direction.
“As much as you can, get busy and find something creative to do and it will not belong, God that blesses people through their daily job will remember you and bless that particular work of yours,” he said.
Nwoye said that divine providence had made some youths living in the state to be destined to be job creators and not job seekers.
“If you have been destined to be a job creator and you are still searching for a job; you will search and wait forever. So go and get a new trade, get busy, get God’s blessings on it and employ others.
“Some people studied engineering but what God wants them to be is simply a tailor or a fashion designer. Versace, Gucci, Channel are all tailors that have been lifted to international fame and recognition,” he said.
The cleric said that the state government had established various modern and ICT skill acquisition programmes through the state’s Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Centre and another through the Ministry of Youth and Sports at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
He said that the state through, an aide to the governor on employment and skill acquisition, had offered programmes to unemployed graduates and youths to attend between three and six months to get re-equipped with new skills. (NAN)
