The Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammad Sanusi, II,  has advised leaders in the country to be prepared to account for all their actions before God.He spoke during  the traditional Hawan Nassarawa Eid homage at the Government House, Kano on Sunday

Emir Sanusi,  who broke into tears halfway into his speech, reminded those in position of authority that power was a responsibility bestowed on leaders at all levels and for which they would account in the hereafter.

He therefore charged the governor to use his wealth of experience to provide enabling environment for improvement of welfare of the citizenry, advising that the government should pay more attention to education, security and agriculture to move the state forward.

In his address , Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje revealed that  the Kano state government was  planning to integrate Quranic School pupils better known as Almajirai, into the formal education system.

He added that the administration is also looking at the prospect of recruiting their teachers to teach Quranic knowledge in formal schools across the state.

The governor, who made this known while receiving the Emir of Kano, accompanied by members of the Emirate council, during the traditional Eid homage at the Government House, Kano added that those Quranic pupils, whose parents are not indigenes of the state and who disallowed the children from joining the formal public schools would repatriated to their states of origin.

Ganduje lamented that begging, often associated with the Almajiri, is disheartening, therefore, he added that the government would not condone it, because it is anti- Islam and not in tandem with the Hausa-Fulani culture besides posing serious major security problems.

He promised that his administration will maintain the scholarships offered to students to study for degree and post graduate degrees abroad by the immediate past administration. He added that the government would continue to award overseas scholarships to deserving Kano sons but with emphasis on technical courses.

While assuring that his government would also continue with the projects inherited from the immediate past government in the state, he mentioned that his priority at the moment would be to complete major projects especially the state Independent Power Plant and the Wuju-Wuju Way in Kano city.

He stated that the government also plans to introduce an innovative approach to fertilizer distribution while strategies are in the offing to revitalize cattle breeding as well as to avert cattle rustling and recurring Fulani-farmers clashes.

“We are looking at the possibility of providing improved security, grazing land and dams at Falgore forest with a view to settling thousands of Fulani herdsmen permanently”, he stated.

Governor Ganduje maintained that the objective is to prevent the Fulani herdsmen from wandering which often results in security problems, Fulani-farmers clashes and cattle rustling, among other things.
