The management of DAILY TRUST has opened the process for nomination of outstanding personalities for the “African of the Year” 2014 award.
In a statement, the newspaper says deserving personalities can be nominated online at www.award.dailytrust.com.ng from now until September 30th.
The annual award, now in its seventh edition, attracts a prize sum of 50,000 US dollars donated by UBA Plc, while the award dinner is slated for Abuja in January next year.
DAILY TRUST, the promoters of the award, says nominees should be ordinary Africans from any part of the continent who have done extra-ordinary things, and that nomination of women is highly encouraged.
The award winner will be selected by a pan-African Committee under the chairmanship of Dr. Salim Ahmed Salim, former Prime Minister of Tanzania and ex-Secretary General of the OAU.
Past winners of the award are Dr. Denis Mukwege(2008), Dr. Tajudeen Abdulraheem (2009), Mr. Dany Jordaan (2010), Mrs Fatimata Bazeye (2011), Mr. Thabo Mbeki (2011) and Dr. Donald Kaberuka last year.
