COVID-19: UNFPA donates PPE to hospitals in C’ River

The United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) has donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to hospitals in Cross River to assist in tackling the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

 

 

The state Commissioner for International Development Cooperation, Dr Inyang Asibong, presented the items to the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Betta Edu, at the General Hospital in Calabar on Monday.

The personal protective equipment donated included thermometers infrared, medical aprons, edical goggles, facemasks and hand sanitiser, among others.

 

 

 

 

Asibong who said UNFPA donated the PPE through the ministry of international development cooperation, added that they were meant to support the health workers at the forefront of the fight against the disease.

“This set of equipment is also meant to improve the safety of individuals who are actively working and responding to the COVID-19 pandemic in hospitals,” she said.

 

 

 

 

 

Responding, Dr Edu, who is also the Chairman of Cross River COVID-19 Committee, thanked UNFPA for its continual support towards managing the spread of the pandemic in the state.

 

 

 

Edu added that the state Governor, Ben Ayade, was committed to enforcing the COVID-19 safety protocols in the state. (NAN)
