A sanitation court in Sokoto on Saturday sealed six filling stations for selling fuel during period of the monthly sanitation exercise.
Presided over by Magistrate Shu’aibu Ahmad, the court, aside from sealing the stations, also sentenced the owners to three months imprisonment each with an option of N10,000 as fine.
The affected filling stations included the NNPC mega stations on Gusau road and western bye-pass road, Sokoto; SKK filling station near Fire Service, Sultan Abubakar Road and Altine Mohammed Filling Station in Kalambaina.
Others are IMAD Filling Station, Gidan-Man Ada and Gosta Petroleum Ltd, Sokoto.
Similarly, the court arrested and convicted twenty motorists to three weeks in prison each, with an option of N2,000 as fine.
In the same vein, six shop owners who were arrested and convicted to two months in prison, with an option of N5,000 as fine.
About 50 motorcyclists were also convicted to two weeks in prison each, with an option of N1000 as fine.
Chairman of the State Task Force on Sanitation, Removal of Illegal Structures of Sokoto city, Squadron Leader Aminu Bala (rtd), commended the residents for their increased level of cooperation.
“We will continue to work diligently to rid Sokoto of filth and enhance the health of the citizenry,” Bala, added.
