A Group, Maternal, New-born and Child Health (MNCH) has mobilised 157 volunteers to donate blood to pregnant women in Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
Mr Ahmed Sani, representative of the group, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi.
He said that the group embarked on the sensitisation campaign to organizations, football fields and other strategic areas to target youths.
Sani said that so far, 29 persons have benefited from the free donation in the general hospital in Azare.
“19 pregnant women and 10 others benefited from the free blood. We currently have 29 pints of screened blood,” he said.
Sani said in line with safe motherhood, the group also embarked on mobilisation campaigns.
He noted a significant number of pregnant women who had completed their rounds on Ante Natal Clinics visits.
He called on the Bauchi State Government to ensure functional blood banks in all health facilities, as a step to save the lives of mothers in the state. (NAN)
