Bishop, Others, Hail El-Rufai for Reopening Southern Kaduna Schools

Stakeholders from southern Kaduna who visited Governor Nasir El-Rufai Tuesday in Kaduna were visibly excited as the government announced its decision to reopen tertiary institutions in southern Kaduna. They commended the Kaduna State Government for improving the security situation in the area, and urged the government not to relent in its programme of development.

The governor thanked the delegation, led by Air Commodore E.K. Jekada, for their roles in helping to stabilize and restore peace in the affected local government areas. Malam El-Rufai said he was delighted to personally thank the stakeholders for their role in upholding peace. He stated that due to the improvements in the security situation, the government has directed the reopening of tertiary institutions in southern Kaduna.

Bishop George Dodo, Catholic Bishop of Zaria,who was in the delegation, commended the government for reopening the schools and for its engagements with people to foster peace. He said it is clear from the governor’s statement that the government has good intentions for the state and that the government is doing a lot. The Bishop however urged the government to let more people know about the things it is doing silently.

Air Commodore Jekada, a retired officer, also commended the governor for the steps he has taken to bring peace to the area. He pledged that people like him will continue to support and cooperate with the government to secure and develop Kaduna State.

Professor Jonathan Nok, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, explained that following the decision to reopen the schools, each tertiary institution will announce its own programme of resumption. Nok, a professor of Biochemistry and holder of the Nigerian National Order of Merit, said that details of the new multi-campus structure for tertiary institutions will be announced later, but clarified that the policy will ensure that every local government area will be assigned at least one tertiary institution, be it a campus of a university, polytechnic, college of education or college of nursing.
