The labour party governorship candidate in Kwara state, Comrade Issa Aremu has thrown his weight behind President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive to the security agencies to deal decisively with ballot box snatchers in the forthcoming general elections.

Aremu in a statement issued and made available to Newsdiaryonline Thursday noted that last Tuesday’s clash between supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ojoku, Oyun local government area of the state, justified the Presidential directive on potential troublemakers during the polls.

The labour party Governorship candidate, who expressed shock over the reported killings that characterised the Ojoku clash, warned that if Nigerians failed to tame thuggery, political thugs and their criminal sponsors would kill peace loving Nigerians as witnessed in Ojoku.

Aremu added that the consequences are dire for the country’s democracy, while applauding Buhari for his Presidential approach asking Nigerians to vote for candidates of their choice.

He chastised the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar for his what he called “unthinking partisanship in place of statesmanship” in his campaign approach.

Aremu said the labour party was supporting President Buhari because his policies and programmes were in tuned with the labour party manifestos.

Aremu who had a stopover at the ongoing Geri Alimi split Diamond underpass, sympathised with the residents of the area and asked the state government to pay them compensation for exposing them to health hazard.

He added that the seemingly abandoned underpass bridge project “was a metaphor for PDP 16 years governance in Kwara state.”
