Aviation Union Shelves Strike As NCAA Meets Workers’ Demands

The Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association, ATSSSAN has decided to shelve its strike action over non-implementation of workers’ welfare measures.

It was learnt that the union’s decision came as the management of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority NCAA agreed to fully implement the staff conditions of service as approved by the head of civil service of the federation.

A communique signed by Engr Benedict Adeyelika, director general of NCAA, Yamsikit A M, directorate of human resource, Comrade Benjamin Okewu, president of Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association among other national officers agreed that the approved duty tour allowance and warm clothing allowance implementation will take effect from July 7, 2014 without the payment of arrears for assignments approved before the above date.

It was also resolved that the management shall commence process of treating heaps files that have been bearing with staff matters and allowances and to complete all the outstanding issues within the shortest time possible.

It was agreed that foreign training will not commence immediately as a result of non implementation of budget but the union advised that pressure should be put on the government for approval.

The management and unions meeting came at the end of the expiration of the 30 days Ultimatum to NCAA.
