Thirteen passengers, including women and children were, at about 9pm on Thursday night, burnt to ashes at Tudun-Dukiya village, near Dogon Karfe, about 10 kms to Illela town in Sokoto state.
The accident involved a Peugeot J-5 bus, which was traveling from Jos, Plateau state to Illela and a Toyota Starlet car, which was traveling from Illela to Sokoto.
Confirming the story, Dr. Umar Gummi, Sokoto State Sector Commander of the Federal Roads Safety Commission (FRSC) told Newsdiaryonline.com on Friday that the two vehicles caught fire after a head-on collision.
He added that fourteen other persons, including women and children were seriously injured while some others had first degree burns.
Gummi further said that some of the injured persons were receiving treatment at the Illela General hospital, while others were referred to the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto.
He said that the burnt persons were difficult to recognize. “As for the deceased persons, they were burnt to ashes and it is too difficult to recognize them.”
