The Nigerian Police has corrected what it described as a mix up in its statement on the attempted assassination of of Senator Dino Melaye in Kogi State.
“Force Spokesman, CSP Jimoh O. Moshood who expressed regrets over the mix up however said “All the other contents and details of the press release on the crime as reported by the complainant and investigated by the police remain valid.”
The statement said in full: ”The attention of the Nigeria Police has been drawn to the mix-up in the name of the home town of Senator Dino Melaye as Ayetoro-Gbede which was the venue of crime and where the attempted assassination / murder of the senator took place and not Iyala as was mistakenly stated in the press release. Iyara town is the headquarters of Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
“All the other contents and details of the press release on the crime as reported by the complainant and investigated by the police remain valid.
“The Force regrets the mix-up which clearly was an oversight and implores the media, the good people of Kogi State and other critical stakeholders to take note and amend their records accordingly please.”
