Some members- elect of the House of Representatives have staged a walk out of an All Progressives Congress ,APC meeting being held to elect who should become the party’s candidate for the post of Speaker
Thos who walked out were livid about the process of the nomination of the speaker and deputy speaker . The protesting members were believed to be loyalists of Yakubu Dogara.
However, the process was adopted and the election on- going. Femi Gbajiabuamila, Palli Illiyasu , and Yakubu Dogara were nominated.
Afterward, Palli Illiyasu representing Edo state stepped down for Gbajiabiamila.It is now a two horse race between Gbajabiamila and Dogara .
The contest for deputy speaker has now been narrowed down to a sole candidate, Mohammed Tahir Maguno who is unopposed because Goni Bukar Lawal of Yobe state stepped down.
The election proper is on going.
Speaking earlier ,Dogara from Bauchi state while quoting President Muhammadu Buhari on his statement about the NASS . said “It doesn’t matter who the person is or where he or she comes”
“There is due process for selection of leaders of National Assembly and I will not interfere in that process”
“Nigeria has indeed entered a new dispensation. My administration does not intend to repeat the same mistakes made by previous government”
