It is already widely known that  not less than 50 worshippers at St. Philips Catholic Church, Ozubulu in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State were killed during morning mass Sunday.

The police have reportedly identified the gunman who fired the deadly shots that killed the innocent worshippers .

But reports from the village however cautioned against blaming Fulani herdsmen. It is an open secret that the massacre was a fallout of an ongoing drug war stretching to South Africa, those conversant with developments said Sunday afternoon.

A villager reportedly said “It is an open knowledge in Ozubulu that there is a cartel war between Mbaise boys  and Ozubulu boys in South Africa..Some guys were killed last year in SA .. and at the burial there was a killing too.. and it has continued.

“This act (Anambra Church killing) has nothing to do do with  Fulani herdsmen, but drug fight that stretches from South Africa among our boys.

“They  came looking for one of their own who incidentally financed the construction of that Church.

One village asked: “Do you know  that  the guy  they came to kill will land in Nigeria today from South Africa?”

Reports said though  the main target was not in Church  Sunday, his father was among those killed.
