Intriguing times are unfolding in Adamawa politics as the Acting Governor of the state ,Ahmad Umar Fintiri has won the primaries of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party ,PDP .He will therefore run as the PDP candidate in the upcoming gubernatorial election .
Fintiri defeated General Muhammed Buba Marwa and others including Umar Ardo who remained in the race after a meeting earlier in the week at the Presidential Villa ,Abuja.
At the Abuja meeting some aspirants like former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,EFCC ,Mallam Nuhu Ribadu unexpectedly dropped out of the gubernatorial race.
It will be recalled that the PDP screening committee led by Senator Ibrahim Mantu had controversially disqualified Fintiri from the race. The acting governor however rejected the move, appealed against it and he was eventually allowed to run.
The party is be hoping to retain power at the election while the All Progressives Congress,APC is also seeking to recapture power after its own Governor Murtala Nyako was recently impeached by Fintiri led House of Assembly;some would say, with Abuja powers pulling the strings behind –the- scenes.
