The International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) has condoled with families of Saifura Khorsa and Hauwa Liman, two of the aid workers killed by Boko Haram insurgents in Borno.
Patricia Danzi, ICRC Regional Director for Africa, told newsmen in Maiduguri that the organisation had commiserated with the bereaved families over the death of their loved ones.
Danzi said the organisation would not be deterred by the brutal murder of its workers and continue with its services in different parts of the country.
“We have to rethink on how we can access difficult terrain and make our workers safe as much as possible.
“Despite the sad mood; we see the need to work to assist the people in need because this is what the two staff died for, they worked for the people that are displaced, the people that need health care services.
“All across Nigeria, both in Maiduguri and Abuja, over 99 per cent of the people do not understand the reason for the killings.
“Nigerians have continued to say this is not what we stand for. Nigerian is over 180 million people and they do not know the reason for this”.
Danzi added that the organisation would adopt effective modalities to motivate workers to enable them to continue with their duties in a dignified and safe condition.
On March 1; following an attack coordinated by Boko Haram insurgents, three aid workers were killed, while Liman was abducted alongside her colleagues Khorsa and Alice Loksha, a nurse working in a centre supported by the UNICEF.
They were abducted while providing humanitarian services at Rann community in Kala Balge Local Government Area of Borno.
Khorsa was murdered in September, while the insurgents killed Liman on October 15. (NAN)
