A 23-year-old unemployed man, Samuel Friday, was on Wednesday brought before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly impersonating an army officer.

Friday, whose address was not given, is standing trial on a two-count charge bordering on impersonation.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Francis Igbinosa, told the court that the accused committed the alleged offences on Sept. 19, at 1.20a.m, at Church Bus Stop, Ipaja, Lagos.

Igbinosa said that the accused was unlawfully parading himself as an army officer by wearing an army uniform.

“The accused was arrested by members of army provost headquarters when he was parading himself as a member of the armed forces,” the prosecutor said.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 77 (1) (a) and 77 (6) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The accused however pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Miss M. F. Onamusi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N300, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Onamusi said that one of the sureties must be a blood relative to the accused or a community leader, adding that the sureties must be gainfully employed and have their addresses verified

She adjourned the case until Oct. 30, for mention. (NAN)
