The Niger state Ministry of Health and Hospital Management, on Tuesday confirmed three new suspected cases of cholera at Bida General Hospital.
Dr Mustapha Jibrin, the Commissioner for Health and Hospital Management, said this in an interview in Minna.
He said that the new cases were recorded in Gbako, Katcha and Lavun local government areas of the state.
Jibrin said that the new cases, comprising two females and one male, were brought to the hospital on Monday and Tuesday .
He said investigation had yet to be carried out on the patients to ascertain if they were infected with cholera.
He said that preventive measures such as continuous active surveillance, coordination aggressive case management, infection prevention and control, community involvement and social mobilisation were ongoing across local government areas of the state.
He expressed optimism that the affected persons were responding to treatment and that adequate provisions had been made to give free medical treatment to patients.
The commissioner appealed to the people especially those living in rural communities to continue to practice good hygiene in their environment and report suspected cases immediately to a nearby health care center.
Seven persons died of the scourge of the 120 persons affected in cholera outbreak in June 14, from Bida, Gbako, Katcha and Lavun local government areas of the state.
The commissioner had on June 20, announced the approval of N25 million by the government to the ministry for continuous surveillance on cholera and other related diseases after seven persons reportedly died from the disease.
