President of the Senate, Senator David Mark has lamented over the death of the Secretary General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Dr. Lateef Adegbite saying that the elder statesman exited when his services were most needed by the nation.
Reacting to the demise of Adegbite in Abuja yesterday, Senator Mark noted the immense contributions of the late Islamic scholar which spread across religious and ethnic boundaries.
” He was a colossus of sort, a true statesman and a passionate believer in the unity of Nigeria. He was always forthright and outspoken especially against societal ills. His wealth of experience would have been handy and worth the while to salvage a challenging situation now.But death is an inevitable end that must come when it shall”, Senator Mark stated.
Senator Mark remarked that late Adegbite left a vacuum that would be difficult to fill, adding that the deceased will occupy a place of pride in the religious and socio political history of Nigeria.
He therefore consoled the government and people of Nigeria especially the Muslim faithful and the immediate family to take solace in the fact that late Adegbite lived an eventful and fulfilled life worthy of emulation.
