Kaduna Health Agency Renews Campaign Against Polio

Determined to rid Kaduna State of wild polio virus, the Executive Secretary of the Kaduna State Primary Health Care Development Agency (SPHCDA) Dr. Hadiza S. Balarabe has urged parents and caregivers in the state to allow their children to be vaccinated.

In a message to commemorate the 2017 World Polio Day rally in Kaduna today Tuesday, Dr. Balarabe said Kaduna state government was committed to the total eradication of the polio virus and enjoined parents to ensure that their children were not left out in the exercise.

She said  the 2017 World Polio Day is  an opportunity for the global polio eradication community and the government to renew  their commitment to polio – free world  for future generation.

Dr Balarabe who spoke through the Deputy Director of Primary healthcare Malam Hamza Ikara said “Tremendous achievements were recorded from December 2012 to date. Nigeria recorded only 4 reported cases of wild Polio virus in Borno State 2016 as against 0 cases over the same period in 2015. Kaduna state in particular did not record  any case of wild polio virus since November, 2012.”

“In view of the intensified efforts to ensure total eradication of Polio in Kaduna State, the State Primary Health Care Development Agency in collaboration with all the development partners working in the state, planned to celebrate world polio day in the state.

The celebration will give opportunity to all the stakeholders to rob mind on the success recorded and the challenges and look at the way forward in making Kaduna State polio free state”

Among the Associations that participated at the rally were Journalists Initiative on Immunization Against Polio (JAP) Kaduna State chapter, polio survivals of Nigeria, women traders, UNICEF etc.
