LG Autonomy: MINILS DG commends Supreme Court verdict

The Director-General/Chief Executive of Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS), Ilorin, Comrade Issa Aremu, mni, NPoM, has lauded the Supreme Court’s ruling that gives Local Councils the financial independence necessary for effective governance.

Aremu, who described the verdict as a landmark decision in the history of Local Governments, noted that the Local Governments have been in this struggle for autonomy for over two decades.

He affirmed that the ruling will have far-reaching implications for governance and administration of the 774 Local Governments in Nigeria based on the financial and administrative independence granted by the verdict.

Comrade Aremu reiterated that as a tripartite Institute and in fulfilment of it’s mandate, MINILS is  ready to collaborate with Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in promoting industrial harmony by organising seminars and study courses.
