An Abuja based group Nigerian Youths for Good Governance NYGG today, Tuesday, staged a peaceful protest at the National Assembly in Abuja.

The protest march is coming in the wake of the suspension of Hon. Lawan Farouk for his alleged involvement in the 620, 000 Dollars bribery saga. The group insists that the House should go beyond the passing vote of confidence on the leadership of the house by instilling a culture of probity and accountability.

The convener of the group and organiser of the protest march Mesele Folujoe who spoke afterward said “Democracy is about ensuring the rule of law and good governance, however corruption is a big factor in Nigeria, NASS is the last hope of the common man as such must check the excesses of the executive and if NASS is corrupt then all hope is lost” he said.

Amusa Ogar Peter of the Nigerian Graduate Economic Empowerment Group said his group joined the protest because “they are demanding an end to corruption because if left unchecked between now and 2015, Nigeria could degenerate to Somalia”

Some placards at the rally had inscriptions like “Nigerian Youths say no to corruption”, “Budget inflation must stop” and “Stop the corrupt oversight now”
