The Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association Remuneration Committee (NBA-RC), Mr Afam Osigwe, has described as heinous, the abduction of a law lecturer at the University of Calabar, Dr Roland Ipuole.
Osigwe made the description in a statement on Thursday.
Ipuole, also a member of the NBA Calabar Branch, was reportedly kidnapped at 8.00 p.m. on Tuesday night while attending a meeting on Marian Road in Calabar.
Osigwe said that the abduction was outrageous and disheartening.
“I am disheartened and outraged by the information on the kidnap of Ipuole, a distinguished lecturer at the Faculty of Law, UNICAL.
“He recently earned his doctorate degree in law and has consistently demonstrated unwavering commitment to the academic and personal development of his students.
“His kidnap is not only a heinous crime against an esteemed educator but also a direct assault on the values of education, freedom and security that we hold dear.
“Such an act of violence and intimidation is unacceptable and should have no place in our society,” he said.
Osigwe urged relevant security agencies to bring the perpetuators to justice.
“I call upon the relevant security agencies, particularly the commissioner of police in Cross River, to act swiftly and decisively to ensure immediate and safe release of Ipuole.
“Those responsible for this despicable act must be apprehended and brought to justice without delay,” he said.
He also urged governments to increase efforts in safeguarding lives and property of all citizens. (NAN)
