Candidate of Labour Party in the 2015 gubernatorial elections in Rivers State,Tonye Princewill has declared that he quit the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP ,partly because he believes the Nyesom Wike cannot win the 2015 governorship election.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Friday, Princewill who has been adopted by about ten other parties in his state also accused Wike of disorganizing the PDP,possibly to pave way for the victory of All Progressives Congress,APC.
During the chat Princewill who contested for governorship race in 2007 on the platform of Action Congress reiterated his suspicion about the Wike-Amaechi fight. He is not sold that there is a real fight between the two friends who have become political rivals.
“In looking at PDP,I decided not to support Nyesom Wike, because Nyesom Wike just simply in my opinion cannot win.It is just pointless to me that Nyesom Wike loses and APC wins and we are all sitting down there and watching it happen ..”Princewill said.
“One of the reason why Iam taking that position, I say Iam not sure if Wike and Amaechi are working together. That they are working together so Wike loses,or they are working together so, Wike wins.
“Why do I say that? I say that because if you want to win an election, what Wike is doing is not how you do it.You don’t alienate 20 plus aspirants in a manner that will do nothing but offend them. If you truly want to win an election with PDP.That’s not the way you do it.So maybe the tag team is so that PDP loses.Maybe the plan is so that APC wins.
So,if I sit back and I support APC then I have fallen into their agenda.Maybe their agenda is to drive people away from the PDP so that APC wins.
“Because I tell you, the only way APC can win Rivers State is if PDP is disorganized. And Wike has done absolutely everything in the book to ensure that it’s disorganized. There is absolutely no reason why he could not have called the people round the table and done this thing differently:okay sorry, we want to give it to Wike.
“Why is he(Wike) going to this extent to take the ticket.Maybe the answer is that he is not planning to win the election.”
He recalled that he “contested for governor in 2007,I did so under the platform of the Action Congress. In 2011,we opted to just stay quiet.Instead of contesting for office, we supported the candidature of Rotimi Amaechi and many of us know that he eventually ended up becoming governor……
Princewill also said he declined offers to go to Abuja .he rather decide to stay back at home and keep his political structure in place, a move he said has not been easy .
He said the time to move on from PDP is now and he has decided to move “quite comfortably into a party that I can call home:the labour party.
Also, he relishes the fact that he is under estimated.Princewill reminds Nigerians that Segun Mimiko and Adams Oshiomhole wrote history. “People have gone against the system and won”, he said.
He accused Governor Rotimi Amaechi of selling Rivers state assets to further his political activities .
