One of the governorship aspirants on the platform of All Progressives Congress,APC in Katsina state,Dr Usman Bugaje has faulted Obasanjo’s criticism of President Goodluck Jonathan of late.Bugaje who made his position known in an exclusive interview with Newsdiaryonline in Abuja said ,“I really can’t see how Obasanjo can extricate himself from all the crimes that Jonathan) is committing in this country”
Speaking on Obasanjo’s remarks that Jonathan failed to act on Boko Haram for three years, Bugaje said ,”Obasanjo,…I mean brought this man in.Honestly he has a share of the blame whatever he says about Jonathan.It’s nice hearing it from the horse’s mouth ,but at the end of the day, who brought him up? It was Obasanjo …So I really can’t see how Obasanjo can extricate himself from all the crimes that Jonathan) is committing in this country.”
At the launch of retired Justice Mustapha Akambi’s books in Abuja on Wednesday ,Obasanjo slammed Jonathan for the evils going on in the country.Specifically he condemned Jonathan’s lackluster handling of Boko Haram .According to the former president,“Boko Haram is not simply a menace based on religion or one directed to frustrate anybody’s political ambition. It is essentially a socio-economic problem that is tainted with religion.
Obasanjo said further ,“Initially, President Jonathan’s understanding of the Boko Haram phenomenon suffered from wrong reading and wring imputation. That is what led us to where we are today.
“It took even the President more than three years to appreciate and understand that it (Boko Haram) is a terrible mix of poor education or lack of education, misinterpretation of what Islam and the Quran teach and stand for,” Obasanjo said.
Obasanjo said further “Poverty, unemployment, injustice, drug, gun trafficking, human trafficking, fallout from Libya, revenge, frustration, struggle against inequality, imitation of international terrorism leading to training and part absorption by international terrorist group or groups and general poor governance including corruption.”
But Bugaje told Newsdiaryonline that Obasanjo cannot free himself from blames as well.Asked “you mean he cannot free himself of blames”,Bugaje, a former member House of Representatives said, “For me no”
Explaining why he believes Obasanjo must be blamed too,Bugaje said , “Yeah but he brought him up.He was the one who blocked everybody and brought Yar Adua and brought a deputy for him.And he knew YarAdua was sick.May God have mercy on him(YarAdua)..He knew.It was deliberate.This man does not mean well for Nigeria. …I say,I repeat it.He just wanted something for himself.When he couldn’t get the third term,he wanted to see how he can punish this country by bringing a sick man and an incompetent person to run this country.And if they have run it down, he cannot say he doesn’t have a commission”

Asked “Maybe he(Obasanjo) has seen the weaknesses and he is trying to make amends”,Bugaje replied ,“fair enough.I grant him that.But that doesn’t obliterate the record that he was instrumental to their being there”.
