An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan on Wednesday, ordered that a man, Christiano Mackay, 28, who pleaded guilty defrauding a hotel of N188,000 be remanded in a correctional centre.
The police charged Mackay, who lives in Ejigbo , Lagos State with fraud and breach of peace.Magistrate M. A. Amole-Ajimoti adjourned the matter until Feb. 21, for reading of fact and sentencing.On the breach of peace charge, Mackay pleaded not guilty and Amole-Ajimoti admitted him to bail in the sum of N1 million with one surety in like sum.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Sgt Phillip Amusan said Mackay on Feb. 12, fraudulently tricked an attendant, Oyebola Oyewale, into allowing him to lodge in ”Plus One Hotel and Apartment for five days at the rate of N37, 600 per night, knowing full well that he could not pay the room rates.Amusan said Mackay owed the hotel N188,000He said the defendant also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace.
Amusan said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 249(d) and 421 of the Criminal Code of Oyo State 2000. (NAN)
