Kalu Makes Case For Stronger Igbo Unity

Former Governor of Abia state and Coordinator Njiko Igbo, Dr.Orji Kalu while addressing a cross section of the leadership of the Njiko Igbo, at the Hilton hotel Sandton in Johannesburg South Africa recently stated that that stronger unity among Ndi Igbo is the only panacea for achieving relevance in the Nigeria political equation
According to Dr.Kalu, a situation where mere political positions allocated to few individuals are recorded as equating the position of the Nigerian presidency was not only deceptive and fraudulent but unacceptable. He then called on Igbos in diaspora to rally round the project as it was only through such effort that the demand for Igbo presidency could be given more impetus and assured of partnership with other Igbo groups. The former governor was also very critical of efforts and statements credited to some eminent Igbos who are bent on jettisoning the Igbo dream for selfish political ends.
Dr Kalu said that Njiko Igbo idea was first muted by the late literary icon, Prof. Chinua Achebe as a political arm of Ndi Igbo that would ultimately demand rightful positions for Igbos in the scheme of things in Nigeria, adding that he had the mandate to drive the project just before the man died and it was only proper to keep the dream alive.
Earlier the coordinator of the group in the Southern Africa region, Chief Daniel Akwari praised the National Coordinator of the movement, Dr Kalu for his wisdom, courage, tenacity and selflessness in the pursuit of the Igbo unity and advancement. Chief Akwari assured of the commitment of Njiko Igbo in the region, in delivering on the mandate given to it. He added that the massive response to the project even with little notice was a clear indication of its acceptability.
In a press statement, the publicity secretary of the group, Mazi Ben Benson-Okoli also acknowledged Dr. Kalu’s many contributions and sacrifices to the Igbo cause, and described him as the most consistent Igbo man living, who has refused to shift ground on the demand for the actualization of Igbo Presidency even at the detriment of his life and business. Posterity, he said, would record him well.
The occasion was well attended by the leadership of Igbos and Nigerian groups in South Africa including the Secretary of the group, Mr Tony Ewulonu; former president of Nigerian Union, Mr Jason Osuafor; PDP Chairman South Africa, Mr Sam Iweka; Vice President Ohaneze Ndi Igbo South Africa, Mr Chima Umealo and Mr Emeka Johnson, Chairperson All Nigerian Nationals in the diaspora (ANNID) amongst others.
